Kathleen M Spears is an Associate Professor of Physiology in the Department of Natural Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University. She received her BS in Biology from Truman State University and her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, where she studied the inflammatory mechanisms of rejection in allogeneic neural stem cells grafts of the central nervous system. Her postdoctoral experience with the Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital in Columbia, MO, a subsidiary of MU Health, focused on the microarray profiling of genetic expression patterns in glioblastoma multiforme, with attention to angiogenesis and endogenous tumor endothelial cell differentiation. Her current research interests include the development of cell-based neuroprotecitve strategies for neurodegenerative disorders and trauma conditions, as well as emergency management of nervous system trauma and best clinical practices for facilitating neural repair.
